The Summary
Tucker Carlson recently produced an episode on the Masters of the Universe who congregated in Davos to discuss how they are going to save mankind and planet earth.
Tucker pointed out that the leaders who gathered at the summit are not impressive or competent, and their schemes are based on hypothetical models that fail to address complex reality.
Tucker suggests that throughout history, powerful states and institutions are often led by smug and arrogant men whose personal abilities do not match their power.
John Leake’s likely explanation is the extreme effectiveness of organizations, where a stupid and corrupt mediocrity at the helm of a powerful organization will always be more effective than a talented individual.
John Leake is reminded of the German chieftain Arminius, who destroyed three Roman legions at the Battle of Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD and was tasked with completing the Roman conquest of the country and its tribes.
Arminius privately concluded that the Romans were rapacious, exploitative, and tyrannical. He formed a secret, rebel alliance of German tribes to set a trap for Varus's 17th, 18th, and 19th Legions, led by Publius Quinctilius Varus. The plot was effective and the Romans were ambushed and totally destroyed in unfamiliar terrain, with all three legions wiped out.
The defeat was a demoralizing blow for the Romans and prompted them to abandon their ambition of conquering Germania. However, the Romans continued to rule much of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East for centuries to come. The German tribes went back to their fractious ways and Arminius was murdered by rivals in his own tribe just 12 years after his victory at the Teutoburg Forest.
